Tattoo Aftercare
Tattoo aftercare is an essential part of the tattooing process. Proper aftercare can help prevent infection, promote healing, and ensure your tattoo looks its best for years to come. Here's how to take care of your new (or future) tattoo.
REMOVE
BANDAGE
For plastic / cling wrap bandage, gently remove the bandage after 2-3 hours and wash with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap. Do not re-bandage.
For tattoo adhesive film / second skin bandage, kindly remove after 3 days. Wash with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap.
APPLY
OINTMENT
After 3 days, apply a thin layer of A&D Ointment or Aquaphor given to you after your session. Do this 3 times a day for the next 3 days. Use a mild, fragrance-free lotion like Lubriderm or Curel until skin returns to its pre-tattoo condition.
USE MILD, FRAGRANCE-FREE PRODUCTS
Always use mild, fragrance-free, hypoallergenic soap, and moisturizer when caring for your tattoo, as harsh chemicals and fragrances can irritate and even damage freshly-tattooed skin.
AVOID
SUNLIGHT
Stay out of sunlight and tanning booths for at least 7-10 days, or until your new tattoo has fully healed. Extreme sun and exposure over the years can and will fade your tattoo. This can be minimized by using sunscreen, at least SPF 30.
AVOID
WORKING OUT
It's recommended to wait 2-3 days before vigorous exercising. After that, it's a good idea to start slow, with light workouts, until your new tattoo has fully healed.
AVOID
WATER ACTIVITIES
Swimming and anything water-related is completely off the table until your tattoo heals fully in 4-6 weeks. Showers are fine.
HEALING
PROCESS
Scabbing will take around 2-3 weeks. Refrain from picking, scratching, or peeling it. Around this time, you’ll notice your tattoo looks blurred and has a silvery sheen to it. Don’t worry! As your skin heals, the tattoo will become more defined. After the first month, your tattoo will look vibrant and fully healed. Healing process may take up to 6 months.
